Car loan customers advised how to save money

UK drivers suffering financially as a result of soaring fuel costs can do things to limit their expenditure.
That is the opinion of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), which offers motorists a course in how to drive more economically.
According to the IAM, there are several ways to "get the most miles out of every tank of petrol" as well as lessen a vehicle's impact on the environment.
Planning a route to avoid sitting in traffic where possible can be very beneficial, as can regular servicing of a vehicle. This is because under-serviced cars can reduce the fuel economy by as much as ten per cent, sometimes more.
It is also worth sticking to speed limits. The IAM explained: "Try to 'feather' the throttle when you reach your cruising speed. Doing 56mph uses 25 per cent less fuel than 70mph and a smoother driving style can bring significant fuel saving."
What's more, the IAM suggested reverse parking where possible, as driving away without having to reverse will help save fuel, especially as the engine will be cold.
The IAM course was established in 1956 and was designed to deliver "eco-benefits through fuel efficiency methods".
