Coulthard lends support to road safety campaign
14/07/2008
Car loan customers who are Formula One fans will be interested to know that David Coulthard has given his support to a government campaign designed to make Britain's roads safer.
Coulthard will be making a four-month tour to gather the public's opinion on how driving tests can be improved and what training can be given to better standards.
Talking about the importance of the campaign, David said: "One in five deaths on British roads involves newly-qualified drivers."
He continued: "Changing the way that people are taught to drive, and making the test more real, can only be of benefit. The government has set out proposals to change this system - and now it's up to you to have your say.
Proposals put forward by Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly include making changes to the theory test and making the practical test more realistic.
There are currently two million people who take a car driving test every year and the pass rate is just 44 per cent. This means that the average learner takes more than two tests before passing.
