Eco car loan customers prepared to spend more on a vehicle
26/06/2008
Environmentally-friendly car owners are prepared to pay significantly more for electric cars, according to new research.
Liberty Electric Cars revealed that 65 per cent of people surveyed at the Eden Project Green Car Show would be prepared to pay 30 per cent more for a zero emission car - in an effort to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the environment.
However opinion was divided on who would accept a compromise on space, performance and utility - 45 per cent of respondents admitted that they would not be willing to downsize to a smaller car with less performance and a further 55 per cent expected an electric car to have a driving range greater than 100 miles.
Barry Shrier, chief executive of Liberty Electric Cars, said: "The product development message is clear.
"As car buyers move to more environmentally-friendly technologies they want the best of both worlds; cars that deliver on performance, safety, functionality and style, without the high cost to the environment."
Liberty Electric Cars is currently developing the worlds first zero emission electric Range Rover, which it expects to have a driving range of 200 miles and cost between £95,000 and £125,000.
