Car loan customers learn that Gordon gives green cars the go-ahead
27/06/2008
Car loan customers that are interested in electric cars will be pleased to learn that renewables would supply "15 per cent of the UKs energy mix by 2020".
In his speech yesterday (June 26th), prime minister Gordon Brown talked about the importance of electric and plug-in hybrid cars in achieving the country's renewable energy goals.
Evert Geurtsen, co-founder NICE Car Company, said: "In the drive towards truly sustainable transport, the government has taken a significant step forward."
He continued: "There is now a clear understanding that the environmental benefits of electric vehicles will develop hand-in-hand with an increase in renewable energy supply."
A report by the WWF published in April this year has found that "even with the UKs current energy mix, all-electric vehicles are still far cleaner than those that are conventionally-fuelled".
Environmentally conscious motorists have said that they would be willing to pay a premium of up to 30 per cent for zero emission driving, according to a survey by Liberty Electric Cars.
