Tax hikes won't stop car loan customers buying big
30/05/2008
Gordon Brown's attempt to save the environment and make London's streets greener is not going to have much of an affect on car loan customers, new research has suggested.
Car Magazine polled over 1000 motorists and found that 76 per cent of drivers would still buy a "gas guzzler" despite the prime minister's new road tax scheme.
Tim Pollard, CARs associate editor, said: "Our research suggests that the Budget changes are futile just a fifth of UK drivers say the £950 first-year tax is enough to dissuade them from buying a so-called gas guzzler."
While the government maintains that the new charges are being implemented to stop the scourge of CO2 polluters, the research and CAR Magazine suggest the bill is nothing more than "a minor inconvenience" to 4x4 drivers.
Mr Pollard goes on to say that the new road tax hikes are, therefore, nothing more than a "revenue raising scam by the government".
