Car loan customers told 26 million drivers do not check oil levels
16/07/2008
Car loan customers may be interested to learn that around 26 million motorists could be risking damaging to their cars because they fail to keep an eye on the oil levels in their vehicle.
In response to research which illustrates driver's ignorance, car care company Comma is launching National Oil Check Day on July 25th to educate motorists about the importance of taking simple car maintenance tests.
Commas Mike Bewsey, explained: "By the time the oil light comes on, it's probably too late to avoid problems and you may only be a handful of miles away from massive inconvenience and a repair bill just as big."
As many as eighty per cent of drivers admit to not carrying out a regular 'dipstick test' to check their oil levels and ten per cent said they never do the important check.
Despite the vast majority of drivers (96 per cent) claiming they knew what an oil light was for, only 20 per cent followed out the standard manufacturer advice of stopping immediately and switching the engine off once a light had come on.
