New technology 'not a non-starter for car loans customers'
30/04/2008
Car loans customers would be interested in investing their money in a car that uses stop-start technology, according to a new survey.
The study, put together by car supermarket group Motorpoint, found that three in four motorists said if they were in the market for a vehicle they would opt for a vehicle that offers the systems.
However, stop-start technology - which cuts engine use when a vehicle is stuck in traffic and can reduce fuel use by up to eight per cent - is a rarity in the new and used car market, with only Citroen, Mini and BMW pushing such models.
Commenting on the report, Motorpoint operations director Paul Winfield said that it was "surprising" that given the demand for greener, more efficient motoring, more manufacturers were not offering stop-start systems.
"This survey shows an overwhelming vote in favour of stop-start technology," he said.
BMW has recently been praised for its Efficient Dynamics technology which makes its 118d model more fuel-efficient - without reducing power.
