Car loan customers are 'punishing' vehicles with high CO2 emissions
15/07/2008

Car loan customers that are concerned about the environment will be interested to know that Fiat and Mini were the only mainstream manufacturers to produce vehicles whose average tailpipe CO2 was under 140 g/km.

A decade ago car makers created that target in a voluntary agreement, but the data from Clean Green Cars shows that most manufacturers have fallen short of the mark.

Jay Nagley of Clean Green Cars said: "Some manufacturers have delivered on their promise, but the vast majority has to raise their game significantly."

He continued: "Porsche has the most work to do: bottom of the league, with CO2 emissions that actually went up slightly in the first half of 2008."

Nagley has suggested that manufacturers that emit the highest levels of CO2 are being "punished by the consumer".

The figures bear out Nagley's theory as all the cars that had high CO2 emissions experienced a sales slump between January and June this year.
